My Peony Garden
When my grandmother moved to Toronto in the early 1930's, she was on a very tight budget and had to ration her money wisely. Sometimes, because of her deep love for flowers, she would forgo groceries so she could buy flowers for her home. Throughout her life, there were always fresh-cut flowers in her house and her passion for flowers was passed on to me.
When my husband and I were married I discovered peonies, fell in love with them and used them to fill the reception room. These were the most beautiful, fragrant, blush pink peonies I've ever seen. Since then whenever I see peonies I smile.
So, over the years I've collected peony bushes for my front yard to keep me smiling. I always make sure to cut some and bring them inside so I can truly enjoy them through their short-lived season. I have happier mornings, better days and delightful evenings whenever there is a bouquet of flowers (or even just a single flower) in my kitchen, on the front table, in my bathroom or pretty much anywhere in the house. Try bringing your garden into your home this summer and see the difference it makes in your day :)
